The Advanced Eco Driving Course

Smart Driving is normally delivered as a one day course, or in half a day if paired
with a supporting half day course.

The course involves up-to six participants each completing 60 minutes of driving.

All Driving events are on pre-defined routes with a qualified Advanced Commercial Trainer.

A total of six participants can be trained in a Duel-Controlled, Fully Insured by the AA.com

New Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec. (AA Solo, so no back to driving school logos, no red L plates or stigma!)
With a Fuel Economy Computer to help out, so six drivers per day per trainer is do-able and
very cost effective!

With minimum disruption, to your normal  working day.

The course commences with an overview of what to expect from the driving event.

A. The Company & Drivers Operating / Driving Licence check. (Show the original documents please!)

B. What a driver can do to their vehicle to improve fuel consumption, daily routine checks…

C. Pri Drive Eyesight check…Q&A…Quick and Easy…It’s not rocket séance!

The on-road training then includes:

Lap 1: A designated route is driven in the driver’s usual style.
The individual’s average speed and MPG for this total journey will be recorded.

Lap 2: The route is repeated with an A19Fleet Commercial trainer offering advice to promote
Advanced Eco Driving with A.C.O.S.T. Effective Techniques.

Lap 3: A final lap of the route is completed where the driver implements the eco-driving-techniques
and average speed and MPG for this journey recorded.

Alternatively, a more flexible approach can be adopted…
On-the-job NVQ Style driving assessments

Evidence of best practice, as a benchmark to help with HSE & Duty of Care Expectations.
And with Corporate manslaughter & CPC to consider, now is the time to develop all commercial drivers.

Nothing wrong with that… But when was the last time you were assessed as a professional driver?

If like so many other professional drivers that I meet on a daily occurrence, most confess to have never been asked, never felt the need and would never volunteer to put themselves up for what is perceived to be an unnecessary test!

At A19Fleet Driving Assessments, Eco Driving, NVQ’s and the Environment is always top of mind. Drive Smart…

Seven Secrets on how to save money on motoring!
A.C.O.S.T. Eco Driving 101
By; Malcolm Stephenson DSA ADI
A19Fleet.co.uk

1) I love to drive, but walk were you can!

2) Check the tyre pressures at daily.

3) Accelerate in a business-like manner when pulling away, changing
up to a productive gear at 2,000 rpm (2,500 rpm for diesels)

4) “Block change” into the highest possible gear when the car reaches
a safe maximum and legal speed for the road and weather conditions.

5) Keep a safety gap from the vehicle ahead of you to smooth out your driving.
(Two seconds will greatly reduce the need for unnecessary braking and stopping.)

6) Drive within the speed limit.

7) Combine a number of tasks into one trip,  reverse into parking bays or driveways so that
you can drive straight forward and warm the engine up as easily and as safe as possible.

Fuel prices are still high, A19Fleet.co.uk Advanced Eco Driving Tuition.
Has developed solutions to help companies reduce fuel bills and
their carbon footprint.

“Fuel and vehicle costs are a core part of a company’s fleet expenditure.
A19Fleet.co.uk teaches simple driving techniques which are easily
adopted in everyday driving behaviour, and have a significant
impact on fleet running costs”

“With On-Road Advanced Eco Driving Tuition, the average speed and MPG
recorded in the first and then a final lap to compare overall MPG saving.”

Driving in a more ‘eco-friendly’ manner has many benefits, both
environmentally and economically, with the most significant of
all the reductions being fuel efficiency.

“Poor fuel efficiency is often a result of erratic driving behaviour
and is characterised by harsh braking and rapid acceleration.
A19Fleet.co.uk develops driver hazard perception and promotes
smart, smooth and also more importantly, safe driving techniques”

Foreign HGVs ‘Cause UK Road Safety Threat’

Friday 11th July 2008
Lorries from overseas are causing a potential car insurance threat on UK roads, Liverpool Victoria said today.
According to the car insurance provider, the number of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) from elsewhere in the EU has increased by 33 per cent since 2001, and will grow by a further 18 per cent before 2013. This means that, currently, around one lorry in seven being driven in Britain is of foreign origin.
These drivers can prove dangerous due to the heightened possibility that they are unfamiliar with UK road laws, and also because their vehicle’s driving seat is generally placed on the left, rather than the right. This proves a particular problem with lorries, as they will be unable to look in their mirrors down the centre of the road – and might therefore find it harder to spot overtaking vehicles.
Liverpool Victoria’s research also indicated that the foreign lorries – which primarily originate from the Netherlands, Germany and Poland – were also less likely to meet national roadworthiness standards than their UK equivalents.

John O’Roarke, managing director at the car insurance provider, said: “Over the last seven years we have seen a significant increase in the number of accidents involving lorries from overseas. Not only is being involved in an accident with a lorry frightening but it can also be very costly and time consuming, as your insurer may have trouble tracing and communicating with the insurer of the vehicle.
“We are calling on the government to bring in legislation to make it compulsory for left-hand drive heavy goods vehicles to be fitted with blind spot mirrors to help avoid these kinds of accidents.”

I say …”All Drivers Need to be Re-Trained in Risk Management Techniques and Driving Skills to minimise
the tragic total loss of live, in all RTA’s. When other people say If Only the Foreign HGV Driver had LOOKED into BLIND SPOT MIRROW!”
